New wagon defroster launched at Aktobe ferroalloy plant
New equipment will help solve the acute issue of unloading ore, which freezes from low temperatures in the winter. After the launch of the new wagon defroster, the manufacturers unload up to 60 wagons per day, and this is even twice as much as before.
The decision on the need to install a closed type of wagon defroster for five and ten gondola wagons in the winter for the Melting shop № 4 was made after analyzing the operation of the car dumper when unloading raw materials.
- Such a small number of wagons that could be unloaded in winter is primarily due to the fact that we received frozen raw materials, as a result of which the cargo was either unloaded in large pieces that simply did not pass through the grate of the bunker, or was not unloaded at all - that is hovering in a gondola wagon in one large piece, "says Serik Khusainov, the chief foreman of the raw materials preparation department of the Melting shop № 4.
The new wagon defroster resolved this issue. Gas infrared emitters of light and dark spectrum of activity, located along the perimeter of the entire car defrosting, produce heating gondola wagons with charge materials. The installation uses a radiation method for transferring heat to a defrosted cargo. The system consists of top, side, bottom heating, as well as gas pipelines, pneumatic distribution, control systems.
- The operator selects a warming-up mode, having the ability to control the process of loading and working through a video surveillance system. The process of defrosting wagons will take place only in the cold season - from November to March,"- explains Natalya Kim, a heat-and-power engineer for the project to improve the operation of Melting shop № 4.
Now, gondola wagons with chrome ore are heated in 4 hours. After such exposure during unloading, it is clear that no adhering material remains on the walls of gondola wagons, there are no frozen pieces. All this naturally simplify the manual labor of the raw materials preparation department stuff. Wagon downtime was significantly reduced.
