Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant Successfully Completes Modernization of Furnace No. 44

The key objective of the project was to upgrade and enhance the reliability of the gas cleaning system. More than KZT 700 million were invested in the modernization works.
Plant specialists completely overhauled the gas cleaning system’s hydraulic seals. The successful replacement of outdated equipment was made possible through the design and welding of a specialized monorail system, which enabled careful and damage-free dismantling of old components and installation of new ones — all within the confined space of an operating facility. This technical solution developed by the plant’s maintenance team allowed the project to be completed on schedule, avoiding additional downtime.
The reliability of the gas cleaning system has also been further improved through the replacement of its water supply pipelines. Obsolete metal pipelines were replaced with modern stainless-steel ones that are highly resistant to abrasive wear.
In addition, plant engineers implemented an innovative project to modernize the furnace bunkers, improving the furnace’s operational autonomy in the event of raw material supply interruptions. The 35 kW power supply lines were also upgraded, enhancing the reliability of the electricity supply system.
All works were carried out in full compliance with stringent safety and environmental requirements and aimed at improving the overall efficiency of the plant. A key outcome of the project was the valuable experience gained by the plant team, which will support even more efficient execution of similar projects in the future.
“The successful completion of Furnace No. 44’s modernization reaffirms our commitment to increasing the reliability of production processes. This is more than just a repair — it is a strategic step towards enhancing the competitiveness of our products in the global market, while adhering to the highest environmental standards,” — noted Dmitry Mochalin, Maintenance and Repairs Director at the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant.
