Stocking of the Ilek River: about 50 thousand young carps were released into the river by Aktobe FP ecologists

Employees of Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant have been engaged in stocking the Ilek River since 2015. During this time, more than 185 thousand carps have been released into the river. In case of Kazchrome’s environmental program development, the company allocates about four million tenge for these purposes annually.

This year, the topic of river stocking became one of the main issues in Aktobe region since the expansion of the Kargaly, Sazda, Ilek, Butak, Peschanka and other rivers caused a sharp decline in water levels. The rivers dried up, and along with the water, the fish disappeared. Together with the citizens, ecologists of Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant were seriously concerned about the situation.

Back in 2015, having studied the ecosystem of the Ilek River, the plant’s ecologists concluded that it is necessary to help in its restoration and developed an event to stocking the river. Since then, thousands of fish have been released into the river every early autumn by ecologists and their assistants. This large-scale replenishment of Aktobe FP ecologists is being carried out to support the diversity of fish in Aktobe waters.

Young fish are caught in autumn. By this time, they must be of sufficient weight to survive in the river. They are then sent from the fish farm to the Ilek River.

“Everyone can make their own contribution to the conservation of wildlife. Kazchrome does not stand aside and for several years now has been implementing an important project — the stocking of the Ilek River. This is a small but important step for our city.” — Svetlana Mashchenko, Chief Ecologist of TNC Kazchrome JSC commented.
